And so the author sets out to share his thoughts on running, what it has meant and means to him. I was apprehensive initially when I looked at the genre “Sport”, but what the book offers isn’t really specific to runners.
Reading this book was very much like reading a set of blog posts. It was like going over thoughts that would be categorized into Personal, Introspection, Writing and so on – and so made for a relaxing read.
Quotes:
Pain is inevitable; suffering is optional.
If something is worth doing, it’s worth giving it your best – or in some cases beyond your best.

You wrote a wonderful review about "What I Talk about When I Talk about Running." I love the title. Thanks for mentioning this book.
In the afterword, Murakami mentions that he was fascinated by one of Raymond Carver's title "What I Talk About When I Talk About Love" (which is also a good collection of stories) and named his memoir so after getting Carver's widow's permission.
I've read a number of Murakami's novels and thoroughly enjoyed them (I think he should win the Nobel Prize for Literature, personally), but I've not read this nor even heard of it previously; I'll definitely be looking for it. Thanks for reviewing it.
Whoa! You've had a pretty active OT month! Congrats!:) I read a couple of books by Murakami and I have this one on my wishlist.. Being a runner myself, I am very interested in knowing his thoughts..:)
Hedgie, Ramya, hope you'll enjoy reading this book!
Ramya, yup last month was good reading wise. Haven't read much since though..
I read in spurts too. Sometimes I get sick of reading and stay away from books for weeks on end and then I read like a maniac for the next couple of weeks.. I guess I need to learn the meaning of moderation!
